Between naive aesthetics and dark humor.
Pascal Wild paints modern man as a child who never stopped looking at the world with wide eyes: curious, unprepared, and always one step too far gone.
About
A bright palette with a crooked grin.
Pascal Wild paints modern man as a child who never stopped looking at the world with wide eyes — curious, unprepared, and always one step too far gone. At the center of his paintings stands a recurring figure: an alter ego with an unmistakable face, stumbling out of pure curiosity into mythological, archetypal, and absurd situations. This figure is him. And it is us. The human being on an endless search for the self — caught between temptation and disorientation, between childlike wonder and adult overwhelm.
In Wild's cosmos, hedonism is not a stance — it's a trap. His figure doesn't consciously tumble into excess; it gets pulled in, because life is simply more seductive than the task at hand. The Augean stables are waiting. But there's a party next door. And so the hero stands there, watches, and can't quite say when he lost control. It is this universal weakness — knowing what's right, and doing something else entirely — that makes Wild's paintings feel so familiar. No judgment, no moral. Just the scene, painted honestly and with a quiet grin.
Formally, Wild works in the tension between control and chaos: a sketchy, restless background meets a sharply contoured figure glowing in color. The world is grey and anxious. The self is the only thing that shines. Humor is his medium. Color his language. And the great myths of humanity are his playground.
